Fable Narrative Lead Anna Megill Leaves Playground Games

New Fable narrative lead Anna Megill announced on July 14 that she would be leaving Playground Games.
“Friends, I have news. In August, I’m stepping away from my role as Narrative Lead on Fable. I’ve had several wonderful years scribbling away in my fairytale cottage, but the time feels right for new challenges,” Megill wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
She said working on the project had been a dream come true and was painful to leave behind. At the same time, the studio had assembled a “heroically talented” team, so Fable would be in good hands, Megill added.
Responding to criticism of her decision, she said she had chosen an appropriate time to leave the role. Megill planned to take a short break after a year of intensive work.
During that period, she had also written two books and expected to be ready for a new project by October.
Megill became narrative lead on the new Fable in July 2022. She joined Playground Games in February 2021 as Lead Writer.
Earlier in July, Fable creator Peter Molyneux commented on the trailer shown the previous month. He said he would have liked to see more gameplay but liked the casting of Dave and had high hopes for the game.
In July 2020, Microsoft confirmed that a new Fable was in development at Playground Games, best known for the Forza Horizon racing series. A teaser was shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2020, after almost a decade of unconfirmed rumors.
Three years later, in June 2023, Playground showed a trailer with gameplay footage at Xbox Games Showcase 2023. At the time, it was unclear whether the game was Fable 4 or a reboot of the series. It was known that the new entry was being developed on the ForzaTech engine.
