Insider Klobrille published a concept for the next-generation Xbox interface, codenamed Project Helix, on March 7. The screenshot shows how the key art for the new Fable appears as the main menu background.
The concept includes Home, My Games, Game Pass and Store tabs that appear to be scrollable. A clock sits at the top, while the bottom of the screen contains a game list, search and settings buttons, and the player’s account information.
Microsoft officially confirmed work on Project Helix on March 5; the name is a codename. The console will support both Xbox and PC games.
In January, the new Fable received a full 12-minute presentation at Xbox Developer_Direct. The event confirmed an autumn 2026 release window on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 and revealed many gameplay features. The game will feature an open world, a choice of the Hero’s gender, character customization and many mechanics familiar from the series, including jobs, buying homes and interacting with NPCs.
Soon after the presentation, game director Ralph Fulton gave two interviews. Among other things, he shared his view of the core elements of Fable and explained how morality will work in the new game, without horns and halos changing the Hero’s appearance. He also revealed that the next Fable will not feature a dog and that more than a thousand NPCs were created by hand. The official FAQ also confirms that Fable will remain a single-player game.
Fable has officially been in development for more than five years. It was originally planned for release in 2025, and later its launch was associated with Xbox’s 25th anniversary in autumn 2026.
