Report: New Fable Will Skip French Voice Acting Amid AI Dispute
Language: EN | RU
The French localization of the new Fable will be incomplete because of the wider situation in the country’s dubbing industry, gaming outlet JeuxActu reported on June 8.
According to the outlet, the lack of French voice acting caused a strong reaction among local fans, who will have to play with English voices and French subtitles despite full localization having become common practice.
There has been no official statement explaining the decision, but the journalist cited a possible reason for Fable’s partial localization. French video-game voice actors do not want recordings of their voices to be used to train generative AI models and in recent months have refused to sign contracts containing such provisions, fearing that their work could gradually be replaced by synthetic voices.
Earlier that day, a mass petition calling for Russian localization of Fable appeared on Xbox’s official feedback portal.
The previous day, it was confirmed that Fable would launch without a Russian localization. Supported languages include English, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Polish and Portuguese.
The biggest event of the day was the showing of a new trailer at Xbox Games Showcase 2026. It revealed several story spoilers, including a Hero antagonist named Isabel, a battle in Bowerstone and even the return of Jack of Blades. The showcase also confirmed the final release date of February 23, 2027, the game’s editions and prices, system requirements and cast, and announced its first DLC.
Fable had been due to launch in the autumn, but one week before the annual showcase its release was delayed.
