Microsoft Explains Why Playground Games Was Chosen for Fable
Language: EN | RU
Playground Games was chosen to develop the new Fable because of its experience building large open worlds and its attention to detail, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said in a July 27 interview with The Guardian.
Playground Games is best known for its Forza Horizon racing series, the journalists noted.
"I just look at what Playground has done with the Horizon series – that attention to detail, the ability to represent these naturalistic landscapes. They also have a real passion for the IP and a unique point of view on what’s core to Fable. Everything I’ve seen as the game progresses tells me this is going to be a very high-quality release", — Booty said.
He also stressed the importance of preserving the legacy of the earlier Fable games while introducing new ideas.
"With any kind of franchise like that, where you’ve had existing versions, there’s always that balance between what you’re going to bring forward, what still stands up, and what you want to add that’s new", — the head of Xbox Game Studios said.
Booty compared the challenge to making a new Star Wars film. In both cases, he said, there are certain elements that have to remain, while still being taken "to new places". He added that he trusts Playground had a good vision for doing that.
A few days earlier, on July 23, Microsoft officially confirmed the development of a new Fable by Playground Games, unveiling a teaser at Xbox Games Showcase 2020.
