Fable Canon

The Fable universe includes a vast number of characters, locations, and story details. As with other media franchises, fans discussing the lore generally divide this information into canon and non-canon.

Official information about a fictional universe—whether from a game, film, or comic—is commonly referred to as its lore. The same term can be applied to Fable, so the official history and mythology of its universe may be described as Fable lore. It can be divided into two categories:

  • Category A — the stories told in the games themselves;
  • Category B — stories from official non-game sources, including Tales of Albion and officially published Fable books.

Fable canon, or canonical information, consists of information about the Fable universe that does not contradict established facts from the games, books, and other official sources.

Non-canon refers to anything that contradicts Fable canon or is simply not part of the official continuity, such as Fable fan fiction and unofficial artwork.

Fanon is information that is not canonical but is nevertheless accepted as canon by some fans based on their personal interpretations or beliefs.

Canonical Translations

An official game localization is usually widely accepted by fans. However, Fable has several localizations that use different translations for character names and location names.

This raises the question of which translation should be treated as the most authoritative. The FableGame editorial team follows two simple rules:

  1. Use the translation appropriate to the context. For example, if an article concerns a character as they appear in Fable 2, use the name from the official Fable 2 localization. If the same character has a different name in Fable 3 and the article concerns that game, use the Fable 3 version.
  2. Use the translation from the most recently released official localization.
