Fable 2 Recomp Gets an Alternative Version
Language: EN | RU
The fan project Fable 2 Recomp now has a fork with a similar name — Fable-2-Recomp. Its author, himdo, has already published working builds on GitHub and claims that he was able to complete Fable 2 from beginning to end.
The new project also uses the ReXGlue SDK and static recompilation of Xbox 360 code. The current version supports 60 FPS and an uncapped frame rate, keyboard and mouse controls, gamepad button remapping and other settings.
At the same time, the author does not yet consider Fable-2-Recomp fully complete: the game may still contain bugs and untested content. It also requires files from the user's own copy of Fable 2 GOTY to run — the game data is not distributed with the project.
Loreaxe, one of the developers of the original Fable 2 Recomp, told FableGame that the new project was originally forked from their GitHub repository. Its author also posted about his work on the original project's official server.
"We asked if they wanted join but decided to keep it as a personal project," the developer said.
According to Loreaxe, the team was not surprised to see a project like this appear. He noted that modern AI models combined with MCP can automate a significant part of this kind of work.
"We knew it would happen sooner or later. With [AI model] Fable 5 we saw that LLMs combined with an MCP could do 90% of the work. Now with Astra they can automate most of it," he said.
The author of Fable-2-Recomp also writes that the project began as an experiment using a local AI model. After the first results, manual work, testing and analysis of the game's functions were still required.
Loreaxe also pointed out the technical difference between the two projects. In his assessment, the alternative project is still Xenia using recompiled code.
"Compared to what we have built it's still Xeina using recompiled code. I wish him all the best and it's a great way to learn," the developer added.
The original Fable 2 Recomp switched to a new architecture using Godot in September. The engine handles graphics and audio output, while the combination of Fable 2 and ReXGlue processes physics, AI, quests, scripts and saves. Loreaxe has now told FableGame that he spent the last three days continuing to optimize this version and is already close to running Fable 2 at 1440p and 120 FPS. According to him, he now needs to find another four milliseconds in the rendering thread.
Some gaming outlets have already written about the new project as if Fable 2 had now been fully ported to PC. However, that wording requires a caveat: even the author of Fable-2-Recomp does not yet consider the project complete, while the two existing versions use different technical approaches.
Fable 2 Recomp is a fan effort to create the long-awaited PC version of the game. The project began in early 2025 at the initiative of Canadian YouTuber Mattscreative. In spring 2026, its creators showed their first attempts to launch the second game.
