Fable Combat Will Be Approachable and Modern
Language: EN | RU
Combat in the new Fable is intended to be just as approachable as in the original trilogy, while also being designed for a modern audience. Associate Game Director Will Kennedy discussed the system at Gamescom 2026.
"When we're talking about being faithful to the classic franchise, we thought about how there was an approachability to combat there, and we knew that we wanted to be able to capture some of that for our game as well. But at the same time, we're making a game for gaming today," TechRadar quotes him as saying.
Combat will allow players to combine different styles and offer a "really broad, deep, rich suite of options to choose from." Transitions between moves will be smooth, while players will be able to customize every element of their loadout, including four spell slots.
"But being able to move so freely between the moves, and it feeling so responsive and so satisfying, is something we're really proud of, because I think we've landed somewhere that is still approachable but has that depth that we want and so therefore is faithful but works in gaming today as well for players, which is sometimes to be proud of," Kennedy added.
In late August, the developers presented a demo at Gamescom 2026 in which players and journalists were able to try out the Fable reboot's combat system.
The game will be released on February 23, 2027, for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, although players who purchase the Premium Edition or Collector's Edition will be able to start playing five days earlier, on February 18.
