Fable 2 Recomp Creators Show First Attempts to Run the Game
Language: EN | RU
The creators of the fan-made PC version of Fable 2 — Fable 2 Recomp — have shared an update on their progress along with a seven-minute video. The prototype can already run on Linux and allows players to complete the childhood section, although there are still graphical issues.
According to one of the developers, Loreaxe, by March 20 the game had reached a "working state," although getting as far as the Bower Lake Gypsy Camp currently requires a great deal of luck. There are still issues involving Fable's own code, the new ReXGlue SDK — which has nevertheless helped the project make significant progress — and CPU threading. The team will not release a public demo until these problems are resolved.
The developers are also looking for designers to create backgrounds, a logo and icons for the Fable 2 launcher. A March 15 post lists the technical requirements for each of these tasks.
Earlier, on February 17, developer crack shared two short video teasers — one showing only the game launching for 10 seconds, and another showing the main menu and character selection for around 40 seconds.
Before that, access to the ReXGlue repository was opened, with the SDK itself also still in alpha.
Fable 2 Recomp is an attempt to port the game to Windows and Linux. The project began in March 2025 and immediately attracted the attention of Fable fans. The idea came from Canadian YouTuber Mattscreative (ryzendew). He was later joined by Loreaxe (Ryan) and tomcl7, also known as crack (Tom). Before ReXGlue appeared, development used XenonRecomp, a tool that recompiles Xbox 360 executables into C++ code.
Fable 2 itself was released in 2008 as an Xbox 360 exclusive and later received backward compatibility support on newer generations of Xbox consoles. Despite years of demand from fans, an official PC version was never released. Enthusiasts continued trying to run the game through emulation, and those efforts eventually became largely successful. Fable 2 can now be played through to completion using the Xenia emulator, although some bugs remain.
