Canadian YouTuber Starts Work on Fable 2 PC Port
Language: EN | RU
Canadian YouTuber Mattscreative is working on a PC version of Fable 2. He announced the project on March 11 on his YouTube channel, where he posts videos about Linux and emulation.
The project is called Fable 2 Recomp. According to its creator, he hopes to port the game to Windows and Linux. The goals include a simple and user-friendly interface, support for higher resolutions in Fable 2 — 1080p, 2K, 4K and even beyond — improved graphics and frame rates of up to 240 FPS.
The project uses a static recompilation approach based on Xenia Canary, which is intended to streamline the process and avoid various issues that can arise during decompilation and recompilation. More details are available in the recently created GitHub repository.
Mattscreative also said that help is welcome, including pull requests. Contributing may require knowledge of C++, as almost all of the project's code is written in the language.
Earlier, in late 2023, FableGame published a guide to running Fable 2 on PC using the Xenia emulator.
Fable 2 was released in 2008 as an Xbox 360 exclusive and later received backward compatibility support on newer generations of Xbox consoles. Despite years of demand from fans, an official PC version was never released. Enthusiasts continued trying to run the game through emulation, and those efforts eventually became largely successful. Fable 2 can now be played through to completion using Xenia, although some bugs remain.
