More details about the new Fable will be revealed on January 22 at Xbox Developer_Direct. The news was confirmed on the official Xbox website on January 8.
“The show includes not one but two titles from Playground Games, with the UK studio bringing us a first extended look at Fable, as well as the debut of gameplay for Forza Horizon 6,” the announcement states.
According to the description, “Playground Games welcomes players back to the fairytale land of Albion, with the first in-depth look at Fable – one of 2026’s most anticipated titles.”
“Devs from the Playground team will unveil the magic and mischief that awaits players in this fresh new beginning for the franchise, including a first look at some stunning new gameplay. Of course, the core themes of Fable will all be there – choice, consequence, drama, action, British humor and (of course) chickens, all reimagined for existing fans and new players alike,” the teaser says.
On the game’s social accounts, the developers themselves promised the “first deep dive” into gameplay.
“We’ve been working on Fable for a really, really long time. It’s time to show you more. Much more,” the post reads.
Xbox Developer_Direct is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, at 6 p.m. GMT.
Playground Games’ participation in the event was confirmed about a month earlier, without details. Journalist Jez Corden had previously predicted that Fable fans would receive a “big update.”
The new Fable has officially been in development at least since 2020. Footage was last shown in the Xbox podcast in February 2025. The game had been planned for release that year, but was delayed and is now expected roughly by autumn 2026.
