Ralph Fulton: Fable Is a Big Game, Not Afraid of Rivals
Language: EN | RU
The new Fable is a big game in its own right and isn't afraid of other major releases, game director Ralph Fulton said on August 27.
"People keep saying that to me, but we don't run scared of other big games," he told IGN. "We're a big game ourselves. We hold ourselves to high standards."
Fulton said he is very happy with what his team has achieved and is "happy to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of other games." There is only one game whose release he would rather avoid entirely — judging by the context of the interview, GTA 6.
Fulton also officially confirmed that Fable had previously been targeting an October release. And although on January 1 he will once again have to give the team a speech along the lines of "this is the year we ship Fable," he considers the rationale behind the delay entirely sound.
The day before, Gamescom 2026 featured 18 minutes of gameplay, both with and without developer commentary. The footage shows a story quest set in Bowerstone. The heroine arrives in the city after an incident in her home village of Briar Hill, meets Humphry, the head of the Heroes' Guild, and tries to help him out of debt, including by fighting local bandits.
Journalists were also able to play another demo focused on the combat system. In a different quest, the Hero and Humphry descend into a mine and fight hollow skeletons and ghosts.
Fable will be released on February 23, 2027, although players who purchase the Premium Edition or Collector's Edition will be able to start five days earlier, on February 18.
