New Fable Will Let Players Completely Empty Out Settlements
Language: EN | RU
In the new Fable, an evil Hero will be able to completely empty out any settlement if they want to, Game Director Ralph Fulton said in an interview with Kotaku.
Doing so will be significantly more difficult in large cities such as Bowerstone: NPCs run away and hide, while guards keep respawning. Technically, the game does not prevent players from getting rid of every resident, but it will be much easier in smaller villages.
Such actions will affect the Hero's local reputation and how the settlement functions. For example, if a shop owner dies, it will no longer be possible to buy anything from their store. Reputation is tied to individual settlements, however, so people elsewhere in Albion may treat the character very differently.
Players will also be able to affect residents without using weapons. For example, they can buy up their homes, raise the rent or evict the tenants entirely. To account for this, the developers have made sure that every settlement has enough places where homeless NPCs can sleep.
The millions earned from property can be spent on mansions of your own. There are several of them in the game, with some of the most prestigious located in Manner Fields — a wealthy district on the outskirts of Bowerstone. Players can also take the opposite approach and invest money in the deprived Copperbottom district, developing local businesses and improving the well-being of its residents.
A few days earlier, Gamescom 2026 featured 18 minutes of gameplay, both with and without developer commentary. The footage shows a story quest set in Bowerstone. The heroine arrives in the city after an incident in her home village of Briar Hill, meets Humphry, the head of the Heroes' Guild, and tries to help him out of debt, including by fighting local bandits.
Journalists were also able to play another demo focused on the combat system. In a different quest, the Hero and Humphry descend into a mine and fight Hollow Folk and ghosts.
Fable will be released on February 23, 2027, although players who purchase the Premium Edition or Collector's Edition will be able to start five days earlier, on February 18.
