Chapel of Skorm

Chapel of Skorm is a location in the original Fable (2004), Fable: The Lost Chapters (2005), and Fable Anniversary (2014). During the era of the first game, this small sinister temple in Darkwood was dedicated to the evil god Skorm.

Players are usually most interested in the chapel because of the rewards from its associated quest. By sacrificing minor characters here, the Hero can obtain the most powerful ranged weapon in the game — Skorm's Bow — reduce their age by 4–10 years, and earn the "Necromancer" title.

Instructions on how to obtain it can be found in our dedicated article about the weapon. This page focuses on the chapel itself.

History of the Chapel of Skorm

Although Skorm did not actually exist, some inhabitants of Albion believed in his power, and visitors to the chapel genuinely felt evil stirring within them.

As the Snowspire Oracle reveals, the cults of the evil Skorm and the benevolent god Avo were actually founded by the same greedy trader. Around 400 years before the events of Fable 1, he discovered two places where powerful magical energies converged. At one, people felt a surge of kindness and were healed; at the other, they experienced aggression and fear.

Seeking to profit from this discovery, the trader established two opposing temples and began collecting money from their visitors. The religion he created survived for several centuries, until worship of Avo and Skorm was replaced by faith in Light and Shadow. After the cult of Skorm collapsed, the order of Shadow emerged, first establishing a Temple of Shadows in Rookridge in Fable 2 and later another centre of dark worship in Mourningwood in Fable 3.

Where to Find the Chapel of Skorm

Reaching the chapel requires travelling through several areas, as the nearest Cullis Gates are some distance away.

From the south (the faster route). Teleport to Barrow Fields, turn left from the Cullis Gate, and enter the nearest cave.

Run through Darkwood Weir and the Ancient Cullis Gate, ignoring the enemies along the way.

Once you reach Darkwood Camp, take the path to the right just before entering the camp — towards the area where the sky turns blood-red.

From the north. Start at the Greatwood Cullis Gate and head south through Greatwood Caves, Darkwood Entrance, Darkwood Marshes, and Darkwood Lake.

Once you reach Darkwood Camp, take the path to the left after passing through the camp — again, towards the area where the sky turns blood-red.

Inside the Chapel

"Skorm himself is said to listen to the beseechings of those here." — the location description.

Darkwood itself is hardly welcoming, with little light and enemies almost everywhere, but the Chapel of Skorm is even more sinister.

A short path surrounded by dead trees and illuminated by a blood-red haze leads to the entrance of the chapel.

The single-storey building stands directly over a small pond. Inside, a burning brazier sits beneath a gargoyle statue, with two hooded acolytes permanently stationed beside it. They accept sacrifices at any hour.

The chapel's atmosphere is made even more unsettling by a disembodied voice that always greets the Hero and comments on some of his actions. It is implied that the speaker is not Skorm himself, but rather some manifestation of the dark energy present in this place.

The cultists can be attacked. Killing one causes the other to fight back, although neither poses much of a threat. The "entity" then becomes angry: "Fool! My acolytes are your channel to me! Now they will show my anger!"

Since the area is very small, there is little loot apart from the quest rewards. The only exception is a chest to the left of the entrance containing an Assassin Shirt. The pond can also be used for fishing, and unusually large fish can be caught there.

How to Make a Sacrifice

"In Darkwood, you will find the Chapel of Skorm. Please the deities there, and they will let evil into your soul..." — the Guildmaster says when the Hero first enters the region.

To make a sacrifice at the Chapel of Skorm, bring a follower or mercenary with you, speak to either of the acolytes, and confirm that you wish to offer them as a sacrifice.

A cutscene showing the sacrifice will then play. Afterwards, the Hero receives a reward determined by the victim and the time of day.

As explained in our article about Skorm's Bow, the most effective method is to use fast travel shortly before midnight to bring mercenaries from Oakvale, Bowerstone South, the Temple of Avo, and Twinblade's Camp.

It is also possible to sacrifice traders during the "Trader Escort" quest.
