Playground Games is developing the new Fable in collaboration with Canadian studio Eidos-Montréal, according to a June 9 Xbox Wire recap of Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
“Playground Games also confirmed its collaboration with Eidos Montreal, who will be supporting the ongoing development of Fable,” the article states.
The recap also offered several new details: Dave from the previous year’s trailer is a gardener, while Humphry, the Hero shown in the new video, is voiced by British comedy actor Matt King.
Humphry will have to come out of retirement because a “mysterious figure” from his past is “threatens the very existence of Albion.”
Earlier that day at Xbox Games Showcase 2024, Microsoft officially confirmed that the new Fable was planned for 2025 and showed a new trailer with gameplay footage. Several screenshots then appeared on the game’s Xbox Store page.
In July 2020, Microsoft confirmed that a new Fable was in development at Playground Games, best known for Forza Horizon. A teaser was shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2020 after almost a decade of unconfirmed rumors.
Three years later, in June 2023, Playground showed a trailer with gameplay footage at Xbox Games Showcase 2023. At the time, it was unclear whether the game was Fable 4 or a reboot. The new game was known to be running on ForzaTech. In February 2024, it was also reported that Third Kind Games was helping with development.
