⚡ New Fable Delayed to 2026
Language: EN | RU
The new Fable has been delayed to 2026, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan announced.
“Really excited about progress, really excited where Playground are. We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, we are actually going to give Fable more time and it's going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that's not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want to assure people of is that it's definitely worth the wait,” he said in the February 25 episode of the Xbox podcast; a recording is available on YouTube.
The podcast also showed around 50 seconds of pre-alpha Fable footage. It featured several locations, including Bowerstone, as well as the Hero riding a horse, fighting a cockatrice, Hobbes and a Balverine, and kicking a chicken.
Playground Games also commented on the delay on its X account.
“We know how excited you are for Fable, and in order to make the best game possible for our players, we’re going to take a little more time and launch in 2026,” the studio wrote.
Earlier that day, insider NateTheHate claimed the game had been delayed so its PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 versions could launch together. Spanish outlet Vandal had also reported in late January that the new Fable was planned for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
In late December, journalist Jez Corden said the new Fable was extremely expensive to develop. He had previously claimed to have seen an alpha build, calling it “fantastic” and comparing it to The Witcher 3.
On June 9, 2024, Xbox Games Showcase officially confirmed that the new Fable was planned for 2025 and showed a new trailer with gameplay footage. Several screenshots then appeared on the game’s Xbox Store page. Video Games Chronicle journalist Jordan Middler had argued the 2025 target was overly ambitious.
