Playground Games, developer of the new Fable, will take part in Xbox Developer_Direct in January. Matt Booty, Microsoft’s head of game content and studios, confirmed the news.
“I will tell you that Playground Games is going to be in the Dev Direct,” he said in a December 11 interview with Variety ahead of The Game Awards.
According to Booty, Microsoft has many games coming next year — more than it can fit into the upcoming show. The exact date of the event had not yet been announced.
Back in October, journalist Jez Corden had predicted that Playground Games would appear at the January event.
The new Fable has officially been in development at least since 2020. Footage was last shown in the Xbox podcast in February 2025. The game had been planned for release that year, but was delayed and is now expected roughly by autumn 2026.
