Insiders Debunk Rumors That Fable Development Was Rebooted
Language: EN | RU
Gaming-industry insiders do not support claims that Playground Games restarted development of the new Fable on Unreal Engine instead of ForzaTech, GameSpot reported on January 3.
The rumor appeared on Twitter the previous day, when a user named Idle Sloth posted: “(Rumor) Fable has been restarted internally. The most current build of the new Fable was deemed 'unplayable' by most of the team. Basically starting from scratch in Unreal, the old Forzatech version will never see the light of day.” The user cited forum posts as the source.
“Hard confirmed that this is total lies,” journalist Jez Corden responded to the claim about Fable moving to Unreal Engine.
GamesIndustry.biz editor-in-chief Christopher Dring reported the same thing around the same time.
The author of the original tweet then agreed with Corden’s advice not to trust forum rumors and deleted the post.
It became known in May 2021 that the new Fable was being developed on ForzaTech. In December 2022, Corden cited insiders saying development had taken longer because of Microsoft’s preference for its own engine instead of common industry standards such as Unreal Engine.
