Morality Will Work Differently in the New Fable

Morality in the new Fable will be “more forward-looking,” game director Ralph Fulton said on January 22.
“Our version of morality isn’t a sliding scale – we’ve chosen to anchor this around the actions you do, and specifically the things you do in Albion that are witnessed by at least one other person,” Fulton said in an interview with Xbox Wire.
If an NPC sees an action, the protagonist will gain a corresponding reputation in that particular settlement — but not elsewhere.
Different characters will react differently to generosity, bigamy and theft, and the Hero will be able to have a different “identity” in different settlements.
According to Fulton, the concept was influenced by morality in the modern world: “there is no objective good, there is no objective evil. Really it’s just about people’s subjective opinions.”
Earlier that day, the new Fable was shown at Xbox Developer_Direct, where an autumn 2026 release window was confirmed and many gameplay features were revealed. The game will feature an open world, a choice of the Hero’s gender, character customization and many mechanics familiar from the series, including jobs, buying homes and interacting with NPCs.
Fable has officially been in development for more than five years — at least since 2020. It was originally planned for release in 2025, but its launch was later tied to Xbox’s 25th anniversary in autumn 2026.
