Rumor: Fable Has Run “Uncomfortably” Over Budget
Language: EN | RU
Development of the new Fable has run “uncomfortably” over budget, wrote Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, citing sources.
He shared their assessment in an article analyzing Xbox’s strategy. Corden considers the company’s push toward multiplatform releases a failure, and sees Fable’s PS5 launch as part of a course that is “suicidal” for the console brand.
In his view, the game should have remained an exclusive that Xbox could use as an answer to Sony. Instead, Fable will compete with God of War: Laufey, which launches on PlayStation on February 16 — one day before early access begins for Playground Games’ RPG.
Corden has previously spoken about Fable’s high development costs. In 2024, he described the reboot as “monstrously expensive” to make.
On June 7, a new Fable trailer was shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2026. It revealed several story spoilers, including a Hero antagonist named Isabel, a battle in Glushville and even the return of Jack of Blades.
The showcase also confirmed the final release date of February 23, 2027, the game’s editions and prices, system requirements and cast, and announced its first DLC. There will be no official Russian localization.
