Jez Corden: ForzaTech Slowed Down Fable Development
Language: EN | RU
Development of the Fable reboot was prolonged by the ForzaTech engine, journalist Jez Corden said on June 12.
“At least for now, ForzaTech has extended Fable’s development longer than it otherwise might have taken,” he wrote in an article about the reasons behind Xbox’s problems.
According to Corden, building the game on Playground Games’ own engine proved incredibly difficult because it had been designed for a different genre.
Early in development there were discussions about using Unreal Engine instead, but ForzaTech ultimately won out. The benefits may emerge in the long term, as Xbox is exploring whether proprietary engines could help reduce costs.
Fable’s use of ForzaTech was first reported back in 2021. In 2023, rumors claimed development had been rebooted on Unreal, but those reports were denied. This year, game director Ralph Fulton confirmed that ForzaTech remained the main development tool for specific reasons.
Last week, a new Fable trailer was shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2026. It revealed several story spoilers, including a Hero antagonist named Isabel, a battle in Glushville and even the return of Jack of Blades.
The showcase also confirmed the final release date of February 23, 2027, the game’s editions and prices, system requirements and cast, and announced its first DLC. There will be no official Russian localization.
