Xbox Game Studios Is Not Worried About Fable Launching Near GTA 6
Language: EN | RU
Xbox Game Studios is not worried about the new Fable and GTA 6 launching around the same time, XGS head Craig Duncan said on January 23.
“There's always other games, and there's always other things we have to consider.,” he said in an interview with GamesRadar.
According to Duncan, Rockstar will do what it is going to do regardless, while his job is to make sure Xbox’s own games are as good as they can be.
He also explained why Fable will launch on PS5 from day one while Forza Horizon 6 will be ported later: Xbox allows itself to be “inconsistent” because of the “development realities,” with each project at a different stage.
The previous day, January 22, the game was shown at Xbox Developer_Direct in a full 12-minute segment. The presentation confirmed an autumn 2026 release window on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 and revealed many gameplay features. The game will feature an open world, a choice of the Hero’s gender, character customization and many mechanics familiar from the series, including jobs, buying homes and interacting with NPCs.
Soon after the presentation, game director Ralph Fulton gave two interviews, with Xbox Wire and IGN. Among other things, he discussed the core elements of Fable and explained how morality will work in the new game, without horns and halos changing the Hero’s appearance. He also revealed that the next Fable will not feature a dog, while more than a thousand NPCs were created by hand.
Reports that Fable’s exact release date may have been withheld because of GTA 6 appeared as far back as summer 2024.
Fable has officially been in development for more than five years — at least since 2020. It was originally planned for release in 2025, but its launch was later tied to Xbox’s 25th anniversary in autumn 2026.
