Peter Molyneux Dislikes Fable Dropping Morality-Based Appearance Changes
Language: EN | RU
Original Fable trilogy designer Peter Molyneux is disappointed that the reboot will not change the Hero’s appearance based on morality.
“Yeah, that's a real shame. I don't know why they've [Playground Games] done that,” he said in an April 24 interview with IGN.
The series creator suggested that the reason could be the difficulty of implementing such a system in today’s high-resolution games. In his view, allowing players to choose the Hero’s gender could make the task more complicated as well.
Fable game director Ralph Fulton previously explained that the game will not have an objective definition of good and evil. The traditional morality morphing system, including horns and a halo, has also been dropped.
In January, the new Fable received a full 12-minute presentation at Xbox Developer_Direct. The event confirmed an autumn 2026 release window on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 5 and revealed many gameplay features. The game will feature an open world, a choice of the Hero’s gender, character customization and many mechanics familiar from the series, including jobs, buying homes and interacting with NPCs.
Soon after the presentation, Fulton gave two interviews. Among other things, he shared his view of the core elements of Fable. He also revealed that the next Fable will not feature a dog and that more than a thousand NPCs were created by hand. The official FAQ also confirms that Fable will remain a single-player game.
Fable has officially been in development for more than five years. It was originally planned for release in 2025, and later its launch was associated with Xbox’s 25th anniversary in autumn 2026.
